Afterimage
A Group Exhibition at Center for Contemporary Arts Santa Fe Featuring Artists from Strata Gallery’s 2021-2026 History
Exhibition Dates: July 1 – August 29, 2026
Opening Reception: July 3 from 5-8pm
Afterimage brings together artists who exhibited at Strata Gallery during its five-year history from 2021 to 2026. Featuring works across painting, photography, installation, collage, drawing, and mixed media, the exhibition reflects on the enduring impact of artistic communities and the ways creative ideas continue to resonate beyond the spaces that first brought them together.
Taking its title from the visual phenomenon in which an image remains visible after its source has disappeared, Afterimage explores themes of memory, transformation, identity, ecology, place, belonging, and resilience. The exhibition brings together artists whose practices engage personal and collective histories, relationships to the natural world, and the evolving ways individuals navigate an increasingly complex contemporary landscape.
Rather than serving as a retrospective of Strata Gallery, Afterimage reflects on the broader creative community the gallery helped foster. Over five years, Strata provided opportunities for emerging and established artists working across disciplines to share their work, exchange ideas, and engage with audiences. The exhibition celebrates the artists, ideas, and connections that emerged through Strata’s history while recognizing their continued influence beyond the life of the gallery.
Ultimately, Afterimage considers the lasting impact of creative exchange and the ways artistic practices continue to resonate beyond the spaces in which they first emerge.
